Alexander “Xander” Slaski is a policy analyst at the Center for Global Development and a policy expert with the Market Shaping Accelerator (MSA), where he focuses on aligning private investment with global public goods across climate innovation and energy technologies. His research and policy work center on the political economy of finance, investment, and energy, with a focus on how global capital and industrial policy interact with domestic institutions, particularly in the Global South. He examines the political determinants of investment, regulatory governance, and the influence of multinational firms, with particular attention to capital flows, natural resources, and the strategic dimensions of clean energy and supply chain security. His work spans critical minerals, climate finance, and the design of tax incentives and financial regulations to shape global value chains. Drawing on extensive fieldwork and policy engagement in Latin America, he has collaborated with government agencies, NGOs, and business leaders to inform energy and investment policy in strategic sectors and frontier technologies. Before joining CGD, Xander was a visiting assistant professor at Georgetown University and held postdoctoral fellowships at Tulane University and Leiden University. He received a PhD in Politics from Princeton University and a BA in Economics and International Relations from Stanford University.
